How Microsoft lost…

How Microsoft lost… its pride, and won customers/gamers.

The whole story,

Microsoft first revealed Xbox One and along with it a ridiculous set of restrictions.

Restrictions which no one liked and Microsoft had to face the wrath of gamers/customers. It was like the whole internet gone hell bent on Xbox One. Gamers were literally boycotting it.

It became the biggest joke of the gaming industry on the internet.

While Sony was riding high on its PS4 E3 success, Microsoft was trying to figure out how to control the damage.

They thought that it would still work, but unfortunately for Microsoft it did not and they got their butt kicked in actual pre-orders. Basically every Xbox fan was upset.

Customers clearly showed that they are in no mood to be controlled by DRM restrictions.

Although its got great looking games like Forza 5, Titanfall, gamers didn’t seem to care about any of those. They just wanted those restrictions removed.

So, in the end Microsoft listened and actually removed all of those restrictions.

Changes in restrictions:-
-No need to authenticate every 24 hours.
-You can play games offline without any internet connectivity.
-It now support used games, meaning you can lend, share, steal, break, throw basically anything you want to do with the physical copy. The game won’t be tied to your account alone. Serves you right DRM.
-It’s now region free.
-All of these restrictions will be removed after you download and install the day one mandatory software update or patch if you will.

But, just like they say you can’t have everything. After removing all the restrictions Microsoft also removed some of the consoles core features. Like, you can not share the games with your family members anymore. Although you can share the disc but not digitally which was previously advertised as one of the main features of Xbox One. You can not install games on Xbox One’s hard drive anymore. Microsoft all i want to say is let it go for now. I know it’s hard to swallow the pride but just let it go please don’t take out your anger on innocent Xbox features.

Honestly saying, I always knew this is going to happen but never expected it to happen this fast. The proof why i am saying this? Well think, if Microsoft seriously wanted these restrictions they could have built all these restrictions into the hardware itself, but instead they chose to do it on the software side and we all know if anything goes wrong on the software side it can be fixed easily by a mere software update. So it looks like they were testing or something and we all know the result of the test now, A big Hell No.

I can understand why Microsoft did it, to fight piracy and to get a piece of billion dollar used game market but that’s not the way to do it. I know the future is digital but not right now no way and not everyone in this world has internet connectivity. Let alone high speed internet. But still they love to play games offline and they also play multiplayer, the only difference is their opponents sits right besides them in their living room not on the other side of the world.

So now Sony’s most of the non existent advantages(I am saying non existent, ’cause they were never really any advantages it was more of an anti Xbox thing) over Xbox One’s are gone now. The only sand in the eye left now is Kinect but it is not that big of a deal ’cause it’s more of a love/hate affair, some people hate it some love it. The only advantage Sony has now is the price. PS4 is priced at 399$ (US dollars) and Xbox One(with mandatory kinect) is 499$ (US dollars). And PS4 is a tad more powerful than Xbox One but ain’t no one cares about that, ’cause if that was true than the PS3 would be beating the shit out of Xbox 360 in the US.

The real War starts as it’s all up-to games now. The one with great games will win, and i really support this war ’cause it’s a win-win for gamers no matter which console you choose.

Here’s a fun video i made on the earlier situation, it doesn’t make any sense now, but hey, everything’s fair in love & War and this is War.
