Horror enthusiasts have a major reason to celebrate as acclaimed director Mike Flanagan’s highly anticipated series adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal novel, Carrie, prepares to make its debut on Prime Video. Reimagined for a contemporary audience, this eight-episode television event promises a terrifying new spin on the tragic story of Carrie White, landing just in time to anchor October’s spooky season lineup.
Summer H. Howell steps into the iconic, blood-soaked shoes of Stephen King’s telekinetic protagonist. She is joined by a stellar supporting cast, including horror veteran Matthew Lillard of Scream fame and Samantha Sloyan, a frequent Flanagan collaborator who previously delivered a standout performance in Netflix’s Midnight Mass. Together, this ensemble is poised to bring Flanagan’s dread-fueled vision to life.
A Modern Twist on a Masterpiece
Unlike previous film adaptations, Flanagan’s version shifts the classic narrative into the modern era. In this updated setting, digital culture and social media play a crucial role in the torment Carrie faces from her high school peers. This contemporary pressure cooker promises to heighten the psychological stakes, building a slow-burn tension that inevitably leads to the story’s legendary, devastating prom night catastrophe.
For fans eager to experience the horror in one sitting, Prime Video is releasing all eight episodes simultaneously on Wednesday, October 7. The series is expected to go live at midnight Pacific Time (3:00 a.m. Eastern Time), allowing viewers worldwide to dive straight into Flanagan’s latest nightmare.
