- Google Home now features in-app audio previews for Nest Doorbell chimes and seasonal ringtones.
- A new play button next to each tone eliminates the need to physically trigger the doorbell to hear the sound.
- The update arrives just ahead of the holiday season, though only the Oktoberfest theme is currently live.
Smart doorbells are excellent security tools, but they also bring a bit of personality to your front porch. In a highly anticipated quality-of-life update, Google is rolling out a new feature for the Google Home app that finally allows users to preview Nest Doorbell ringtones and seasonal chimes directly from their mobile devices.
Previously, setting up a new seasonal chime or standard ringtone was a tedious guessing game that required physically walking to the front door or waiting for a guest to press the button just to hear the audio. The latest update introduces a convenient play button to the left of each theme option, allowing for instant in-app listening.
Upgrading the Smart Home Experience
The new preview capability supports both standard classic chimes and Google’s popular limited-time holiday themes. This makes it incredibly easy to sample spooky Halloween sounds or festive Christmas jingles before committing to them. To access the feature, users can navigate to the Doorbell camera settings and open the Doorbell theme menu within the Google Home app.
While the preview feature is fully functional, users will still have to wait for Google’s seasonal themes to officially launch throughout the year. Currently, only the Oktoberfest theme is active—which is scheduled to end its annual run on October 9th—meaning eager Halloween fans will have to wait just a little bit longer for those spooky seasonal tracks to arrive.
