HP has officially joined the race to challenge Apple’s rumored MacBook Neo and Dell’s upcoming 14S. The PC giant has unveiled the OmniBook 5, a colorful, ultra-portable 14-inch laptop powered by Intel’s next-generation “Wildcat Lake” processors. Slated for an October 2026 launch, the device is poised to disrupt the mid-range laptop market with an incredibly aggressive starting price of just $699.99.
What truly sets the OmniBook 5 apart from its direct competitors is HP’s decision to standardize high-end display technology: every single model will ship with an OLED screen. The entry-level model features a 14-inch 1920 x 1200 OLED touch panel, while a higher-resolution 2560 x 1600 OLED option is scheduled to arrive in March 2027.
Inside the OmniBook 5: Specs and Roadmap
Under the hood, buyers can configure the OmniBook 5 with either an Intel Core 5 320 or a Core 7 350 processor, utilizing integrated Intel graphics. Base models will ship with 8GB of soldered LPDDR5-6400 memory and a 256GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. For power users, HP plans to roll out 12GB RAM configurations and a roomier 1TB storage tier in November 2026, with 16GB options also available.
In terms of design, HP is leaning heavily into lifestyle aesthetics to compete with Apple and Dell. The OmniBook 5 will debut in four colors: peony pink, starlit blue, smoke silver, and soft honeydew. Weighing in at a mere 2.56 pounds, it undercuts rival 14-inch systems like the Dell 14S (2.65 pounds) and the Acer Swift Air 14 (2.62 pounds). HP also promises up to 42 hours of battery life from its 60 WHr cell, though the company clarifies this metric is based strictly on local video playback testing.
