- RuneScape Reignited launches on December 2, offering a fresh-start character type with a separate economy and high scores.
- The new mode completely removes paid progression and grants 10 days of free members’ access at launch.
- Developer Jagex also announced a new Unreal Engine-powered RuneScape MMO and an upcoming animated series.
Jagex is giving lapsed, new, and veteran adventurers the ultimate excuse to return to Gielinor. During its RuneFest event, the developer unveiled RuneScape Reignited, a brand-new permanent character type launching on December 2 that offers players a completely clean slate, free from the baggage of decades-old economies.
Described by the studio as “RuneScape as it was always meant to be,” Reignited characters will inhabit the same game worlds as existing players but will operate under a fresh, isolated economy and dedicated high scores. Crucially, Jagex is disabling all paid progression for Reignited characters, addressing a long-standing grievance among the MMO’s community regarding microtransactions. To sweeten the deal, all Reignited characters will receive free access to members-only content for their first ten days.
A New Era for Gielinor
The Reignited update—which launches alongside the new Adventure Guide and the next phase of the “Remastering RuneScape” initiative—was not the only bombshell dropped by Jagex. The developer also confirmed it is actively developing a fourth MMO in the RuneScape franchise, which is being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine to deliver a modern visual leap.
Additionally, the studio announced an official RuneScape animated adaptation created in partnership with popular YouTuber Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. Whether you are a lapsed veteran looking for a fair playing field or a curious newcomer eager to jump into a 25-year-old legacy without feeling left behind, December is shaping up to be a historic milestone for the iconic franchise.
