Look at this homepage. Just look at it. All you will see are HTC phones(and one post dedicated to idiots). Well, HTC has been launching some good value for money phones lately. And looking at how big of a sucker for value for money products i am. I can’t resist but to buy these phones. Especially when they give very good performance and still falls in somewhat ‘affordable’ category.
This HTC Desire 820s seems exactly like the ‘old’ 820. But from the inside it is entirely new. With a blazing fast and very powerful Mediatek MT6752 chipset. If you don’t know much about this chipset. That is because, it’s very new. And this is one of the first phones that is launched with it in India. This chipset basically consists of Octa-core Cortex A53 processors clocked at 1.7 GHz and new Mali T760 GPU. Which is the same GPU inside Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. In short it’s a high-end GPU available at affordable price. You can see that in the Antutu benchmark which i ran on this phone in the video below, just to check the new chipset’s score and to get an idea of its performance.
That is it though. It has nothing else new. It has the same old 5.5 inches LCD Display of HD resolution, 13MP back camera with LED flash and 8MP selfie/front camera. 2GB of RAM, 16GB memory(expandable). Dual sim, 4G and 2600 mAh battery.
They might have given us the new blazing fast chipset but they have also taken something away. I am talking about full HTC Sense 6.0 UI here. Old 820, one with Snapdragon 615 have it. But this one doesn’t. You can see that in the unboxing video below. I don’t know the real reason, but i am guessing it is because of the Mediatek chipset. Anyway for around 24,000 Rupees (Approx $400) it’s a shame that this phone doesn’t come with full HTC Sense. That is like the only complaint i have with this phone. Below are some shots of the phone and specs as stated on the box.
